In addition to having a leading position in the world's dried fig production and export, Turkey exports a wide range of products from America to New Zealand. According to the data of the International Dried Fruit and Snack Council for 2020-2021, it reveals that 85,000 tons of the 148,000 tons of dried figs produced worldwide originated in Turkey. While 70,674 tons of dried figs were sent from Turkey to 97 countries last season, it is estimated that 258 million dollars were earned. According to these data, while Turkey exports the most to England, Germany and France, it achieved an income of 56 million 420 thousand dollars in the first export part of the 2022-2023 season, which started on October 7th.
The Biggest Share is Aydın’s
In Aydın, where approximately 70 thousand tons of dried figs are produced from 6.5 million trees planted on an area of 370 thousand decares, products are generally produced in August and September.
One of the reasons why Aydın fig is one of the highest quality figs in the world is the wind. The breeze blowing during the day at the harvest time of figs and the north wind blowing in the evening, not only ensure that the figs come to the desired maturity, but also make them even tastier.
